Between November 1938 and September 1939, some 10,000 children, mostly Jewish, travelled to Britain from Germany to escape persecution. Diane Samuels’ play charts the story of nine year old Eva who begins a new life in Manchester. When her parents fail to join her, Eva begins a process of adopting a new culture and denying her roots. The play also explores the complexity of mother/daughter relationships and the pain of letting go.
Auditions for Kindertransport will take place on Saturday 16th November at 10.30am in the Worthgate Scout Hut, 37a Heaton Road, Canterbury, CT1 3QA. The auditions will be very much workshop based with some group activities and some work on particular scenes to see how people work off each other. The auditions are intended to be fun and not stressful, and participants are not expected to learn audition pieces.
Performance dates for Kindertransport are 23rd to 25th April 2020 and you will need to be at the theatre every evening that week. Rehearsals will start late January and mostly be on Monday nights and Saturday mornings, with an additional one for small hander scenes on Wednesday or Thursday evening. Not everyone will be called to every rehearsal but the times you are needed will increase the nearer to production we get.
