More about Dee...

Danielle (Dee) Neligan
Actor: La Ronde; Play It Again Sam; The Accrington Pals

Recently informed by her mother that she has been usurped in her role as Drama Queen of the family, Danielle begs to differ. Starting out in school nativity plays (though never cast as Mary), she moved on to a spot of TV and drama at Uni. Initially drawn to her first role with Canterbury Players, as the presenter in "La Ronde" - because she dreamed of being a dominatrix with a whip - she is now utterly content flowing around in a corset and a pretty dress. April 2007 saw Dee acting the part of Eva Mason, in Peter Whelan's "The Accrington Pals".

I'm totally passionate about drama and acting and have returned to it after a few years off following graduating from Uni in 2004 (surprising myself by actually attaining a degree!!!!). I was delighted to get the role of The Presenter and hopefully will impress with my portrayal of Eva. Joining the Players has been an absolutely amazing experience so far - long may it continue!

I used to be able to dance a very fine jig, so here's hoping I can bring out this experience at some point with the Company. I'm also taking singing lessons at present, for the role of Eva, but I'm marginally less enthusiastic about that.........

Other than acting and generally flouncing around, I'm mad for music and spend a lot of my time watching the live bands around Canterbury - of which there is some great talent at the moment. That's only the excuse that I give, actually. I can generally be found in the pub. Nine to five, I do a 'responsible' job, but I wont bore you with the ins and outs. I also spend a fair amount of my time perving over the beautiful Noel Fielding, and doing my best to emulate his wonderful hair. I can recite over five catchphrases from the Mighty Boosh, and do a fabulous impression of the Cockney Witch. At least, that's what I tell myself.

Previous experience in media, tv, stage;

  • Irish Dancing from aged five to fifteen
  • Some spots on Channel Fours' Sunday morning show 'Wise Up' 1996
  • Presenter for a kids news show 'Nick News' on Nickelodeon between 1996-1997
  • Lots of acting experience- see below for details
  • Joint Drama and English Degree, Kent University, 2001

Previous Roles

  • Sarah, Brian Friel's 'Translations'
  • Gwendoline, 'The Importance of Being Earnest'
  • The Mistress, 'Death of a Salesman'
  • Titania, A Midsummer Nights Dream
  • Viola, 'Twelfth Night'
  • Delilah, 'Nice Wanton' (medieval morality play)
  • Many devised pieces throughout university (quite 'original' stuff, true to form of all university drama students!!!!)
  • Presenter, 'La Ronde'
  • Eva, 'The Accrington Pals'
DEE NELIGAN'S REVIEWS:
"A dominating but seductive Presenter, played in a variety of costumes, by Danielle Neligan."

(La Ronde, reviewed by Elaine Godden, Kentish Gazette.)
"Eva's early loyal, later ambivalent relationship with May, were portrayed with warmth and perception by Dee Neligan."
(The Accrington Pals reviewed by Elaine Godden, Kentish Gazette.)
